Santa Claus, we are counting on you for a better tomorrow

The Nors children are already an integral and unquestionable part of this Magazine, and it is always with great expectation that we await their contributions, which fill us with happiness and hope for the future, which is expected to be promising.

With the Christmas season “around the corner”, it was unavoidable to challenge our protagonists to write a letter to Santa Claus, but with a twist – to appeal to a better and more sustainable world. The answers were as warm as they were insightful and filled us with pride. Knowing that tomorrow will be in the hands of these talents, so sensitive to the issues of sustainability, pollution, peace and justice, certainly puts us all at ease!

Our thanks to the young writers and their drooling families. We promise to ask Santa Claus to consider your requests with special care.

Dear Santa Claus,

I am Alicia Jasmin and I am 11 years old,

First of all, I would like to wish you and your reindeer a Merry Christmas.

As Christmas is coming and there is much joy and Christmas spirit in everyone’s heart, I hope that you are in good health and have extra energy to carry out the task ahead of you.

This year I will not be asking for presents for myself, as I already have lots of toys, but I want to ask for gifts for all the children who really need them, in order to cheer their hearts.

More than a festive and joyful season, Christmas is also the time to reflect on our human consumption habits. Therefore, for this year, my wish is that more and more people become aware of the importance of a sustainable Christmas by applying simple measures, but which seek a balance between the supply of human needs, the preservation of natural resources and the preservation of the environment for a better planet for future generations.

Santa, many people do not know, but we can reduce the environmental impact by celebrating Christmas and other commemorative dates in a sustainable way, avoiding the purchase of unnecessary things by making a shopping priority list and thus avoiding excessive consumption, avoiding packaging, or using easily reusable or recyclable materials, use cloth napkins because they are reusable instead of paper napkins, plan dishes with ingredients that pollute less and, of course, avoid waste, avoid generating waste through packaging, especially plastic, because it takes many years to decompose, teach children to recycle packaging correctly, among other measures.

Dear Santa Claus, I promise to do my part for the preservation of the environment, helping the planet Earth to be blue and green, planting many trees, not dirtying the beaches, rivers, streets, roads and forests, separating the rubbish and this way helping to save natural resources for the production of various packaging and other objects, as well as avoiding soil and water pollution, among other things.

Santa Claus, I’m sorry for writing so much, as I know you still have many letters to read.

Many kisses to you, the reindeer and the elves.

Take care.

Luanda, 13th November, 2022.

Dear Santa, Merry Christmas!

I know you and your elves have been busy preparing the presents for the Christmas party!

I am Lúcia Bongue Venâncio, I am 12 years old, and I am studying in grade 6 at primary school.

One more Christmas is coming, and I hope it will be full of peace, love and lots of presents. Dear Santa Claus, this year, I would like to help our planet!

Since last Christmas, things are not going well, and the world needs us to change the planet.

We need to preserve the environment and take care of nature, and for that, we need to use natural resources responsibly for a better future.

The concept of sustainability is fundamental to understanding sustainability. It is based on the union of the three most affected focuses, which are: the environment, society and economy.

In order for sustainability to become a reality, the three others must be considered together, and measures must encompass all these interests.

Dear Father Christmas, help us rebuild the world and make it usable.

I would like people to understand the importance of caring for the environment and to value the tripod of sustainability, and stop the burning of trees.

We must take care of the environment and our future, so it is important to preserve our resources, starting with: saving water; not throwing rubbish on the street; promoting green spaces; using fewer plastics; buying less and repairing more; separating rubbish and reducing electricity consumption.

With affection,

Lúcia Bongue Venâncio

Dear Santa Claus,

First of all, receive my warmest greetings, Santa Claus.

Thank you for providing joy to all children on planet Earth.

And for this Christmas, I ask that you, dear Santa Claus, spread more joy to those children who have no one to spend Christmas with.

And may this Christmas be full of gifts, fun and a better planet for all!

Here in Brazil we call Santa Claus “Papai Noel”. I don’t know why there is this difference, but it seems very curious.

Around here, we live in a less curious moment in politics. Half the country on one side is wearing the Brazilian flag, and the other half the red colours, which is hard to understand. It would be much better if we joined forces.

Who knows, a better country and even a better world, with more union, peace and people enjoying more peaceful moments.

I would like to ask Santa for a better planet without pollution, with the environment preserved, with fauna and flora with a lot of diversity.

Dear Santa Claus,

This Christmas I would like to ask you to take a message home to make people aware that our planet needs help.

We have taken more from nature than we have given back to it, and that is why it is time to rethink our sustainability actions, such as: turning off the tap when brushing our teeth, disposing of trash in the appropriate place so that it does not end up in rivers and seas, separating recyclable waste and not cutting down forests.

So that we can use the planet for longer.

My dear Santa Claus,

This year I only wanted one very special present.

The present I wanted is peace in the world because, unfortunately, there is almost no peace in the world.

I also wanted there to be no pollution because there is almost nothing left without pollution.

World hunger is a big problem, and it’s getting worse and worse with Ukraine’s war with Russia, so if that ended, it would be a great present.

A big hug and kiss from Maria.

Merry Christmas

Thank you very much!

Hello Santa!

The only thing I want is a sustainable planet, less pollution and more biodiversity.

I think this is important because many animals (especially aquatic ones) are dying everywhere due to humans not knowing how to recycle, and this has to stop.

So, help me Santa Claus, to make this planet a better place.

Dear Santa Claus,

I am Afonso Rios, I am 10 years old and in the 5th grade. I know you have been busy preparing presents and elves too, but I would like to ask you to

– to leave recycling points in every home in the world so that all families can recycle;

– to make people aware of the need to move in a sustainable way;

– to encourage people to make new products from the recycling of organic waste;

– encourage people to opt for renewable energies such as photovoltaic and wind energy, etc.

– Encourage everyone to plant a tree every year.

I hope you can fulfil my wishes.

Have a nice and happy Christmas!

Love,

Afonso Rios

Dear Santa Claus,

This past year I did very well. I am already in the second grade and I like it very much.

I’ve been learning about how to protect our planet, which suffers from the pollution we make.

I would like to turn all the wrapping paper from the Christmas presents into jumpers for the kids. The bows from the presents into hair ribbons.

Many kisses and Merry Christmas

Dear Santa Claus,

We are Henrique and Afonso and we hope you are full of energy and as excited as we are looking forward to the most important day of the year.

We would like you to know that this year we have been very active regarding sustainability, now we never forget to separate and recycle the rubbish we make.

As at this time we can make requests, this time we wanted to make a special request. When you go to visit all the children, we would like you to give them a little box with chocolates wrapped with messages: don’t waste water, turn off lights that are not necessary and don’t litter on the beaches.

We want you to help us in this mission to protect our environment for a more sustainable planet.

We are counting on you!

See you on the 24th!

Kisses

Henrique and Afonso Pereira
