What is the Nors Group? What is its business?

The Nors Group is a Portuguese group whose vision is to be a world leader in transport solutions and construction and agriculture equipment.
It is born of 83 years of history and activity in Portugal, which started with the Volvo brand representation in 1933.

What is the reason for the name change in a Group with so many years, with such a striking identity and so well recognized in the national economic outlook?

Its historical high growth - anchored in a strong internationalization - and the expansion of its activities into new business areas, with different characteristics from the Group’s traditional activity, justified the need to create a comprehensive and aggregating corporate brand, which sustained the Group’s growth ambition on the one hand, and translated its diversity on the other. The change, in 2013, from the name Auto Sueco Group to Nors thus arises as a consequence of this ambition.

Why Nors? Where does it come from? Is it Swedish?

No, it is not a Swedish word. Nors is a proprietary word of our own, and that was our goal. We wanted the name of our Group to evoke a sense of direction, a course, and some ancestry regarding northern Europe, where our original business originated and by which we are culturally very marked.

But we also wanted for it to be intrinsically linked to people, our human capital, in short US (which in Portuguese is translated by “Nós”, a word similar to Nors, in both writing and sound). Call it a “NÓS” customized with the "R" from North. NORS represents our collective, our team, our organization, the strength and determination that drives us and our "know-how".

And isn’t there the danger of loss of the heritage associated with your old name?

We believe that this heritage will remain naturally. Firstly because the Auto Sueco brand will remain, although now linked only to the Volvo business, and then because it is part of who we are, of our DNA. This change will enhance our image among our stakeholders and at all markets. Our heritage is essentially linked to our core values, to the way we always related with all our stakeholders. And also to the recognition that we reap from them on how we work, our skills, the quality of our work and our attitude, permanently guided by responsibility, stringency, transparency and rigour.

These values are part of the Nors Group DNA. We will continue to be recognized for our "know-how" and ability to "make it happen" - by our ability to deliver the best solutions in all our areas of expertise.

What are the Group’s business areas?

The Nors Group today is a multinational with a wide scope of action, which conducts its activities in four main business areas:
